Water is becoming more and more valuable commodity, due to droughts and overuse. That is why is important to learn to manage it in a more fair and sustainable matter.
This project aims to help strengthen the institutional, administrative and monitoring capacities of Montenegrin water management sector institutions in order to improve environmental protection; enhance preservation and sustainable management of water resources; and comply national policies with EU environmental Acquis.
During its implementation period, it is expected to build up monitoring capacities of the national institutions responsible for water management and result in full transposition of EU Directives in water management sector. That is particularly related to Nitrates Directive, Floods Directive, Bathing Water Directive and Marine Strategy Framework Directive. In this way Montenegro will improve its water management related legislative and organizational framework.
Also, within this project, groundwater exploration by drilling in arid terrains will be conducted, as well as preparation of hydrological and hydraulic model of the river Bojana and Skadar Lake. The project will run until November 2022.
