Naming and shaming sexual violence against women and children in Montenegro

About the project

Sexual and gender-based violence is a widespread and devastating human rights violation that takes place across the globe, including Montenegro. The scale of the problem remains alarming and it has to be tackled seriously.

Sexual abuse of children and women is still a taboo in Montenegro and there is a need to address this issue in public. This project aims to raise awareness of citizens, media, representatives of institutions and persons with experience of sexual violence about the presence of sexual violence in Montenegro, its forms and the availability of help and support services. Therefore, within the project will be conducted a campaign to raise public awareness that sexual violence occurs in Montenegro, as well as a campaign to improve the position of survivors of sexual violence.

During its two years long implementation period, the project will strengthen the capacity of women’s NGOs to provide assistance and support to women and children with experience of sexual violence and promote their rights. It will also contribute to establishing a system for monitoring the compliance of the legislative and strategic framework of Montenegro with European standards, analysis of the situation in practice and lobbying for the improvement of support for persons with experience of sexual violence.
