Eco and Outdoor Tourism Actions of the Balkan Alps

About the project

The development of rural tourism has strong potential for diversifying the rural economy of both Montenegro and Kosovo. This project is created with a goal of strengthening the sustainable development of their cross-border region through valorization of joint tourism potentials, based on natural and cultural heritage.

It foresees activities that will contribute to the quality and diversity of services, as well as the establishment and promotion of a joint tourist offer. This project will help develop new and refine existing tourism packages and improve tourism infrastructure in the targeted area. The project team has already successfully completed interviews with 55 local tourism providers in order to identify the best tourism development potential in all segments.

Also, this project aims to strengthen cooperation of mountain rescue services and increase safety of visitors of the National Park Prokletije in Montenegro and the National Park Bjeshket e Nemuna in Kosovo. 50km of hiking trails will be assessed from the safety aspect and renewed; local mountain rescue services established; and the mountain/rescue centre renovated. In short, it is expected that the project will result in enhanced active tourism offer and safety of tourists in the area of Prokletije.
