Disasters do not know borders 2

About the project

Floods and fires have been dominant risks with disastrous consequences on the environment, people’s lives and property, cultural heritage and economic assets in both Montenegro and Albania. This project is aimed at improving the protection of their cross-border area from the risks of disasters.

It is a continuation of the project “Disasters do not know borders” which ended in January 2021 and whose implementation showed there is a need for continuous action in disaster risk reduction (DRR) in both countries. With this project is targeted a bigger cross-border area, including Municipalities Podgorica, Bar, Ulcinj, Budva, Cetinje, Danilovgrad, Andrijevica, Berane, Plav, Petnjica, Gusinje and Rožaje in Montenegro; and Municipalities Shkodra, Malesi e Madhe, Puke, Fushe Arrez, Vau i Dejes in Albania. In that way will be reached a higher number of people and raised their awareness through different communication channels about the need for DRR.

It is expected that this project will strengthen capacities of institutions and services from the target area for DRR, forecasting and early warning systems; as well as enhance their cooperation. It will also provide guidelines for improvement of the protection and rescue systems in Montenegro and Albania in line with EU models of good practice. In short, it will improve protection from hazards in both countries through capacity building, awareness raising and enhanced cross-border cooperation in DRR.
