Culture heritage – Treasure of cross border region

About the project

Cultural heritage tourism provides an opportunity for people to experience authentic activities, artifacts, food, clothing, and music. It provides tourists with genuine experiences and as such has a positive economic impact in each society.

This project aims to improve the volume, quality and visibility of tourism related to the valorisation of rich cultural heritage and values of both Kosovo* and Montenegro. More specifically, it is aimed at enhancing the cultural tourism offer of Bjeshket e Nemuna/Prokletije cross-border region by establishing new thematic cultural routes and trails. The project will also engage and increase the capacities of the peoples from rural areas to provide tourism services.

Additionally, the project will promote the “strong” attractions (mountain tourism, nature and biodiversity values) by valorization of cultural and natural resources and the “soft” attractions (history, events, traditional fairs, traditional artisans) by building capacities and socio-economic development through cultural tourism. In other words, it will help analyze and map cultural and natural heritage resources of the targeted area and support its economic development.

*This designation is without prejudice to positions on status, and is in line with UNSCR 1244/99 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
